However, while fans offer support, Celtic icon Thomas Gravesen has turned his sights on the leadership of the Danish National Team and points the finger of ‘blame’ at head coach Brian Riemer.
Utterly devastating for Kasper, your thoughts, Celtic fans…
Stay strong, Kasper!
Celtic hero Gravesen ‘blames’ Denmark boss for Kasper Schmeichel injury news
Gravesen, never one to mince words, has slammed the Denmark boss for keeping the news a ‘secret’ as Denmark look to qualify for the World Cup without Schmeichel in their ranks.
Gravesen said via the Daily Record, “This is clearly something that goes back a long way, and again I have to blame Brian Riemer. Come on out! What kind of secrecy is this?
“Why is it that you can’t talk about these things when they happen? Why does it have to come as such a surprise?
“It was a bombshell when he announced his cancellation. If Brian Riemer has known about it for a long time… take charge of the situation and be the helmsman of this ship called DBU.
“Show us you know everything and you are aware of everything. Stop creating a stir in the duck pond. Take control of this huge story, which is that our top goalkeeper is suddenly not there.”
Celtic must be fuming at Schmeichel news
Gravesen’s primary frustration lies in the lack of transparency. As he argues that the sudden ‘bombshell’ news is a shock to Denmark, Celtic must also be reeling.
For Celtic, the timing could not be worse. With the veteran keeper facing a grueling recovery and his future at the club all but over, the Parkhead club now need to scramble for a contingency plan.
As the dust settles, the focus will always remain on Schmeichel’s health, but Gravesen has ensured the Danish coaching staff is firmly in the hot seat.
