Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali this summer, according to journalist Christopher Michel.
The Old Trafford side have reportedly stepped up their interest in the Italy international as they look to bolster their midfield with a big-name signing after the season.
Tonali, who was linked with a surprise winter exit to Arsenal, is claimed to be ‘open’ to a move to Manchester amid a difficult campaign with Newcastle.
The Magpies look unlikely to secure European football next season, sitting ninth in the Premier League table with eight games remaining.
Man Utd Working on Sandro Tonali Deal

According to Michel, United are ‘seriously working’ on a move for Tonali ahead of the summer, with the Italian keen on joining the Old Trafford side.
Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position for Tonali, who is under contract until the summer of 2029, with reports claiming the Magpies value the Italian at around £100million.
Eddie Howe’s side proved difficult negotiators last summer when they took almost two months to agree Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool for a British-record £125million.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 and has since made 103 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists.
Man Utd Eyeing Midfield Overhaul

Manchester United’s reported interest in Tonali is hardly surprising, given the club are heading for a potentially significant midfield overhaul after the season.
The Old Trafford side will be looking to replace veteran Casemiro with a new marquee signing, as the 34-year-old is set to depart when his contract expires in June.
Manuel Ugarte’s future has also been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, amid the Uruguayan’s struggle for regular opportunities at United this season.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, several Italian clubs are keeping tabs on Ugarte ahead of the summer, while Galatasaray explored a potential move in January.
Tonali Could Become Man Utd’s Record Signing

A move in the region of £100 million would make Tonali Manchester United’s record signing, surpassing the £89 million the club spent on Paul Pogba in 2016.
United’s transfer expenditure went over £200 million last summer on the quartet of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens.
Sesko and Mbeumo have been United’s top scorers in the league this season, netting nine goals each.
