BARCELONA, Spain (WBRC) – Journalist Gisela Macedo working in Barcelona confirms to WBRC’s Marcos DePaula police have found the body of 20-year-old Jimmy Gracey in the sea.

Gracey was a native of Illinois and went to the University of Alabama where he was a member of Theta Chi.
Gracey’s family says he was visiting friends in Barcelona during spring break. He was last seen by a friend around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at a club, a popular night spot for tourists.
The Gracey family released a statement Thursday afternoon.
“We are so grateful for the kindness and concern that has been shown for our family during this incredibly difficult time. We have made the decision to pause media interviews at this time to focus on being together and caring for one another. Thank you for respecting our privacy and holding our family in your thoughts and prayers. We will share updates if and when we’re able.”
The University of Alabama released the following statement Thursday afternoon:
We are keeping Jimmy and his family at the forefront of our thoughts, and our staff are in direct communication with the family to offer every support and assistance possible. Anyone with information that may help is encouraged to contact local authorities. The safety and well-being of all our students, here and abroad, are always the University’s top priority.
