A major fundraiser is underway to bring a West Donegal man home to Ireland following a choking incident in Germany.
Martin Boyle (Jnr) from Dungloe was admitted to ICU after the accident during a dinner in Frankfurt almost two weeks ago.
“What started as a normal Saturday and into the evening, enjoying a celebratory meal after work with colleagues in Frankfurt, quickly turned into every family’s worst nightmare,” said a GoFundMe appeal by Tom Willis on behalf of the family.
An off-duty paramedic and quick-thinking colleagues provided immediate assistance to Martin, who was taken to the University Klinikum Hospital in a serious condition.
Martin, aged 37, is the son of Martin and Mary Celine Boyle.
Martin’s loved ones are now by his side and trying to get him home to continue his recovery in Ireland.
A Rosary Service was held at the Kerrytown Shrine on Friday 1st August for the people of the Rosses to pray for Martin.
So far, €57,934 has been raised online to support the Boyles during Martin’s long road to recovery.
“All donations will go directly to Martin’s family to help cover medical expenses, time off work, travel costs, and any additional support they need while staying close to Martin in hospital,” Tom wrote.
“Let’s come together as a community to support Martin and his family — and help them feel the strength of love and solidarity during these trying times.”
