Saudi Arabia‘s Foreign Ministry on Saturday described Israel’s strikes on Syrian army camps a day earlier as “aggression” that violated international law and called on the international community to take action.
In a statement, the ministry said the kingdom condemned “”the blatant Israeli aggression… in flagrant violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty.”
It called on the international community “to put an end to Israel’s violations of international laws and norms.”
The Turkish Foreign Ministry had earlier called the Israeli attacks “a dangerous escalation,” while Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait also all condemned the action. Â
Israel’s military said on Friday it had carried out strikes in southern Syria in response to what it called attacks on the Druze community in Sweida province.
It said it would “not allow harm to come to Druze in Syria and will continue to act for their protection.”
Israel bombed Syria during a deadly bout of sectarian violence last year, using the same justification.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Thursday that at least four Druze fighters had been killed in clashes with government forces in Sweida province.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry called the Israeli attacks an “outrageous assault on Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” saying Israel had used  “flimsy pretexts and fabricated excuses” to justify its actions.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said on Friday that he was working “to keep Syria away from any conflict” amid the current Middle East war.
