The North Kerry community of Lixnaw is in shock following the tragic death of a local teenager following a car crash at the weekend.

Parish Priest Fr Anthony O’Sullivan said the entire community are devastated at the news of the death of a fine young man.

The teenager was the sole occupant of the car which crashed at Deerpark, Lixnaw on Saturday last, August 2. He was airlifted to Cork University Hospital but subsequently died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning, August 6.

Fr O’Sullivan said the death of such a young person is a terrible tragedy for his family and for the community.

“It is the suddenness of it, he is just 19 years age, it is just devastating for his family, his parents and sisters and brothers.”

He said there is heart-break in the community at the news of his death and neighbours are now rallying around the family as they come to terms with their loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the young man and his loved ones who are grieving. In times like this it is very difficult to find the words for that grief and sorrow but we are there as a community.”

Today’s News in 90 seconds – 6th August 2025

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision at approximately 5.40pm on August 2 at occurred on the L1029 road at Deerpark, Lixnaw. The road was closed for some time as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out an examination of the scene.

Gardaí have also issued an appeal for information.

Any road users who may have dash-cam and were travelling in the area on the 2nd August 2025 between 5.15pm and 5.45pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
