City West police unearthed four cannabis grows while visiting a Beechdale bungalow.

Neighbourhood officers were investigating drug activity when they knocked on a property’s front door.

Cannabis grower Manh Huy Thai answered before letting them inside the Walesby Crescent-based address.

Within seconds of being invited in, it became apparent to the officers that Class B drugs were being cultivated.

As it turned out, the bungalow had been turned into a cannabis growing factory and was housing more than 200 plants.

Different growing locations were found scattered across the detached address, with one of the bedrooms packed full of cannabis.

After climbing up a ladder into the loft, officers also found the area had been converted into three more cannabis cultivating rooms too.

All sorts of growing equipment had been set up in each area, while dangerous alterations were made to the electricity to power the grows.

Thai was handcuffed and marched out of the bungalow, before officers seized all the plants and put the growing equipment out of use as well.

Having arrested him around 3.40pm on Monday (16 March), police moved in rapid time to ensure he was charged and sanctioned.

Before 24 hours had passed, the 29-year-old had pleaded guilty to producing cannabis at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

Thai, of no fixed address, was duly sentenced that same day (17 March) to six months behind bars.

Sergeant Daniel Sheasby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Community-based cannabis grows like this one represent a real problem to neighbourhoods for many reasons.

“They often have links to other forms of criminality, rely on the exploitation of vulnerable people, and bring nothing but trouble to areas.

“Not just that though, the way those involved bypass electricity to power these grows brings a genuine fire risk that puts neighbouring properties at risk.

“Bearing all this in mind, we were delighted to be able to detect and dismantle these ones, while also locking up grower Manh Huy Thai for good measure.

“The officers involved in this investigation did a brilliant job and it was great to see Thai caught, charged and sentenced as quickly as he was.”
