TACOMA, Wash. — A shooting at the MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma left a man dead and a woman injured Wednesday evening, according to the Tacoma Police Department.

Tacoma police said just after 7 p.m., it received calls regarding a shooting that occurred at 1900 South Union Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two victims who’d suffered gunshot wounds.

The TPD said they believe the incident began with an altercation that took place at a separate location from the hospital.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female victim was reported to be in “stable condition.”

The TPD also confirmed that no one is currently in custody, but also emphasized that this is not an active shooter situation.

Further details about the incident or the identities of the victims have not been released as the investigation is ongoing.

The hospital released the following statement hours after the incident occurred:

MultiCare Allenmore Hospital is currently on restricted access due to an incident in the Emergency Department. The ED is open for walk-in patients. Restricted access doesn’t allow for any visitors at this time. Tacoma Police are on-site investigating the incident. One person died as a result of this incident. All MultiCare staff are safe and unharmed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
