The 32-year-old has only made 10 senior appearances in the past two seasons, after an injury-hit spell at Burnley, and then a brief festive stint this season at crisis club Sheffield Wednesday.

Redmond made 112 league appearances for the Canaries, capped by a goalscoring display in the 2015 Wembley play-off final win over Middlesbrough. But the attacker feels he can help guide Blackburn to safety.

“When you are a free agent you get a lot of questions in your own head. Do you want to play? What level? Do you want a challenge or an easy life? I only turned 32 a couple of weeks ago and I still feel, body-wise, I have a lot to offer the game,” he said, in his first club interview on Blackburn’s channels.

“I want to give back to the game. Whether it is working with a squad in transition or integrating young players.

“This game gave me thing I could have never dreamed of. So for players towards the back end if you lead by example you can always offer something. Having children changed my view a lot. Seeing my boy completely obsessed with football and being able to show him some of the greats I watched helps with that enthusiasm.

“But when I talk about that mental battle of how much do I want it, I know I am not done and I still want to play as long as I can. I think there have been questions about my fitness but the struggle was to get into clubs to let people use their eyes. The game is very data-led now.

“Every game is massive. Whether it was the start, middle or business end of a season. In my career I always thought it was horrible to look back with two weeks left of a season and feel you left points out there back in December and what that might have been.”
