Police say incident was not an active shooter situation.

TACOMA, Wash. — A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting inside the lobby of MultiCare Allenmore Hospital on Wednesday evening, prompting a lockdown and police investigation.

Tacoma police said the shooting occurred around 7:00 p.m. after an altercation that began off hospital property. The suspect followed the victims — an adult male and female — into the hospital’s lobby, where shots were fired. The man died at the scene. The woman was taken for treatment and is in stable condition.

Police said the incident was not random and does not appear to be an active shooter situation. No one else was hurt.

Officers are working to identify the shooter using hospital surveillance footage. No arrests have been made.

MultiCare Allenmore Hospital remains on restricted access as police interview witnesses and process the scene. The Emergency Department is still open for walk-in patients, but visitors are not allowed at this time.
