A 13-year-old boy has tragically died following an incident in Fairmont Road, Grimsby. The teenager was riding a self propelled scooter when he was hit by a car on Tuesday, March 24.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “At around 6pm, we received reports that a white Seat Ibiza was travelling on Fairmont Road before it is believed to have been in collision with a child riding a self-propelled scooter across the road. Emergency services attended, and the 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment to life-threatening injuries.

“Despite the efforts of medical professionals over the past four days, the teenager sadly died yesterday evening (Friday, March 27). Enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances around the collision.

“As part of these initial enquiries, we can confirm that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice. A 41-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

“Both men have since been released under investigation.” The spokesperson said: “Officers continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time the incident is believed to have occurred, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 346 of 24 March.”
