A woman has been arrested after a delivery driver and two police officers were assaulted. Merseyside Police officers were in the County Road area of Walton dealing with a different investigation this morning, Sunday, when they saw a delivery driver being assaulted.

The force said the incident was reported and uniformed officers who were nearby attended and arrested a woman on suspicion of assault. A spokesperson for the force said after they had cautioned her she “assaulted one of the officers and ran off”.

But when she ran the woman fell over and caught her arm on a spiked, low metal fence surrounding the front door of a house on Church Road West.

Merseyside Police said the woman allegedly assaulted another officer who was trying to provide first aid with the help of a paramedic.

The woman, 37, has been taken to hospital where she is being treated for an injury to her arm.

In addition to the assault allegation she was further arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault on an emergency worker.

The ECHO was told by residents on the street that the incident happened at around 11am.

When the ECHO arrived at the scene a small section of Church Road West had been cordoned off covering around half a dozen houses on each side of the street. Officers from two vehicles, including an undercover car, were also in attendance.

A forensic officer from one of the force’s scientific support units was also carrying out investigations on the pavement in front of one of the houses.

A second said they had been told that “two women were on the floor wrestling”, while a third said they saw a paramedic vehicle arrive on the scene.
