Third baseman Bo Bichette was booed by fans at Citi Field in just his third game with the New York Mets Sunday afternoon.

The former Toronto Blue Jay heard it from the fans after he struck out with runners on second and third to end the seventh inning, keeping Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates even at 2-2.

Bo Bichette was asked if the boos at Citi Field caught him off-guard at all:

Bichette finished 0-for-5 with three strikeouts as the Mets went on to lose 4-3 in 10 innings.

When asked if jeers caught him off guard so soon into his tenure with the Mets, Bichette took accountability for his poor day at the plate.

“If anything I thought it took too long,” he told reporters with a smirk. “But I mean, I get it, I thought my at-bats were terrible too.”

The 28-year-old is 1-for-14 with one RBI in his first three games in Flushing with the Mets off to a 2-1 start.

Bichette signed with New York earlier this year after seven seasons as a Blue Jay on a three-year, $126 million contract that carries opt-outs after this season and next.

He’s led the American League twice in hits during his career and slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBI in 139 games last season with Toronto. He hit .333 in 16 spring games with the Mets this year.

Bichette and the Mets will begin a series in St. Louis against the Cardinals Monday evening.
