A man arrested after a major incident in Friar Gate in Derby city centre on Saturday night remains in police custody on Monday morning (March 30).

Derbyshire police confirmed that at around 9.30pm on Saturday, March 28, a black Suzuki Swift hit multiple people before ambulance crews treated the injured at the scene.

Seven people suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries in the incident.

A 36-year-old Derby man, originally from India, who has lived in the UK for a number of years, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

On Monday morning, police have issued an update saying the man remains in police custody.

A force spokesperson said: “Detectives are continuing their enquires following an extension to the time that the man arrested can be held for.

“A further update will be provided later today.”

The force has reiterated it remains keen to speak with anyone who has not yet spoken with officers and has CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage that can assist their investigation.
