THOMPSON, SUSQUEHANNA CO. (WOLF) — Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot on Thursday while responding to a call in Susquehanna County, authorities said.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the two troopers were shot along Route 171, five miles north of the borough of Thompson.
FOX56 has a team at the scene. They report a very heavy first responder presence that includes multiple ambulances, New York state police, a PA Game Warden, and sheriff’s deputies.
A distraught bystander at the scene where media from NEPA and New York muttered, “This is not an area where this happens.”
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed the shooting about an hour after it happened while speaking to the public at an unrelated event in Bucks County. He said he and his wife Lori are sending their prayers.
“In Susquehanna County, two state troopers were shot. Lori and I are praying for those troopers,” said Shapiro.
“The Troopers were both transported to local hospitals. An update on their conditions will be provided later. The scene remains very active and information on the suspect will be released at a later time.”

United States Representative Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), who represents Susquehanna County, said that the troopers are expected to be in stable condition.

No information on the suspect has been released at this time.
According to Shapiro, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris is on the scene of the shooting.
Shapiro said that after the event, he would travel to Susquehanna County.
According to PennDOT, as a result of the shooting, Route 171 is closed in both directions between Main St. and Starruca Creek Road in Thompson and Bethel Hill Road and Chuch Hill Lake Road in Harmony Township.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area.
