From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A Moulin Rouge spokesperson has now said in a statement: “During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated.
“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
The Independent has contacted Megan’s representative for comment.
In a post on X, her hairstylist Kellon Deryck wrote: “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.”
Megan is playing Zidler for a strictly limited eight-week run at the Al Hirschfield Theatre, which began on 24 March and is set to finish on 17 May.
The Grammy-winning star received rave reviews following her debut as Zidler and was praised by US publication People for “making the part distinctly her own” and “bringing a modern swagger to the Moulin Rouge that feels both unexpected and entirely welcome”.

“I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.
“Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties [Megan’s nickname for her fans] to see a new side of me.”
