The car rammed into the pub leaving the wall and door damaged

Bouncers and customers in The Dolphin pub in Broadstairs were left in shock as a driver rammed into the building twice in the early hours of this morning (April 4).

Doorman tried to get the culprit out of the car after the building was hit but the driver managed to pull away despite the extensive damage to the front of the vehicle.

Doorman had taken the registration, made sure all customers stayed inside and were in the process of contacting police when the car was driven head on into the Albion Street property.

The pub has suffered damage to the wall and doorway with brickwork strewn on the path and road, alongside parts of the car.

Multiple videos show the incident with one car driver behind the vehicle screaming and sounding distressed. Other screams and shouting can be heard in the pub above the music.

Doormen can be heard saying ‘He’s trying to kill us….don’t let anyone out’ just before the driver smashes into the premises. In the aftermath one says: “Get the police here now, get him out of the **** car. He’s driven his car into the front of the building. Unbelievable.”

It is understood the driver was ejected from the premises earlier in the evening.

An 18 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody,

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 1.56am on Saturday 4 April to Albion (Street), Broadstairs to a report of a car colliding with a building.

“Officers attended the scene alongside other emergency services, where minor injuries were reported.

“An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.”

The aim is to have The Dolphin pub back open this evening. Customers are advised to check the pub’s social media pages for updates.

A message from the pub says: “Following the incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, we just want to reassure everyone that we are open as normal after undergoing repairs.”
