US and Israeli warplanes struck a petrochemical complex in Iran’s southwestern city of Shiraz on Monday, marking the second such attack during the day, Iranian media reported.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency, citing local authorities in Marvdasht County in Fars province, said a small section of the Shiraz facility sustained damage in the attack.
The strike came shortly after US and Israeli fighter jets bombed petrochemical production facilities in the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Asaluyeh in southwestern Iran.
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Iran has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
