A body has been found in the River Mersey. Emergency services were called to Canning Dock in the city centre following reports of a concern for the safety of a man today, Tuesday, April 7.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and ambulance services were called to the scene. The coastguard also attended and a huge search was launched, focusing on the water. Part of Albert Dock was also cordoned off by police.

Following enquiries, the body of a man was found in the River Mersey, police have confirmed. The man is yet to be formally identified.
