The dust has not yet settled. The ripples will continue to spread outwards for days. Lincoln City will compete in the Championship next season.
I have made myself cry this morning listening to the coverage, and somehow, I have to start picking things apart, producing content for you to enjoy. Where better to start than taking the words of one record-breaking manager congratulating another?
This journey started back in 2016/17, with an FA Cup run that defied logic and a promotion that brought the club back to life. Danny Cowley was at the helm, and yesterday, after his Colchester side bagged a 1-0 win against Tranmere, Danny took to social media to congratulate the Imps.
“I am so happy for you all,” wrote Danny on Twitter. “What an incredible achievement! A brilliant football club with so many special people!
“Just shows what can be achieved when people come together & there is joined-up thinking. What a 10 years to be an Imp! Enjoy! Much love”
It’s crazy. Ten years ago, he hadn’t walked into the club, but he and Nicky were the catalyst for a rise that, at the time, we all hoped might end in League One consolidation. Here we are, nine years later, waiting to take our place in the Championship thanks to the class of ’26.

Michael Skubala (and all the staff) have picked up a club revitalised in 2017 and taken it to levels we barely thought possible. Danny is right, it has happened because everyone, from top to bottom, from Clive (and now Ron) to management, coaching, marketing, comms, kit man, everyone, is on the same page, fighting with the same values and a core belief in the direction of the club.
Of course, you know this, but City now cannot be caught by anyone other than Cardiff City, and the realists will be focusing on the next five matches and a title win that seems as unlikely now as it did 41 matches ago. How can a team with such a comparably small budget be performing to such high standards?
People coming together, on and off the field. With a lack of division, you can climb any division. Just ask DC.
