Expectations are soaring high as star director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s latest film Coolie, starring Thalaivar Rajinikanth in the lead role, is set to hit theatres worldwide on August 14—a clash release with the Hrithik Roshan–Jr. NTR starrer War 2.

Apart from Rajinikanth, the film features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Pooja Hegde, and Upendra Rao. The star-studded action flick is expected to rake up a storm in theatres across the globe.

Industry pundits are predicting Coolie to be ‘Thalaivar’s’ shot at the coveted ₹1,000 crore club—a feat he is yet to achieve. Nonetheless, the movie is sure to post great numbers at the box office if it opens to good reviews, despite the clash with War 2, which boasts two other big stars of Indian cinema, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.

Meanwhile, what has now caught the attention of cinephiles is Shruti Haasan’s candid revelation during a conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan on his YouTube channel. When asked about her experience working with Lokesh Kanagaraj, Shruti said,

“Yes, he is a special filmmaker. He understands the pulse of the people.”

When Sudhir mentioned how Lokesh once said that “love-romantic movies are not his cup of tea,” she was quick to add,

“His films are a testosterone-heavy world.”

When asked about her favourite Lokesh Kanagaraj film, she quickly replied Vikram, admitting she was “biased” in that sense.

Vikram, released in 2022, starred Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Arjun Das, Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, Gayathrie Shankar, and others in pivotal roles—and went on to become a blockbuster at the box office.

As the conversation progressed, Shruti spoke about how she has been dying to do an urban romantic film for a long time. When quizzed about whether being a heroine meant she was pushed into a romantic zone in films, Shruti disagreed, saying that has not been the case for her, and noting she has not done many such films.

Shruti’s candid revelations offered an insight into the mind of an artist—the roles she craves, and the personal biases that can emerge during an actor’s journey in the industry.

But for now, the whole world is waiting to witness the magic of the one and only Rajinikanth on the big screen on August 14!
