A 14-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a targeted and disturbing assault of a person with a disability in Bradford.

Authorities ramped up their investigation after discovering that the violent act was recorded, posted and circulated on social media.

The video reportedly showed a person with a disability being physically assaulted, where they were taken to a secluded area and endured repeated acts of violence.

South Simcoe police say they have been investigating multiple incidents for weeks where a person with a disability was targeted, harassed and bullied by a group of teens, all documented on various social media platforms, including Snapchat.

The teen turned themself in to police on Tuesday and is facing charges with multiple counts of assault.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police say additional arrests and charges could follow as the investigation remains ongoing.

Police remind parents and guardians to discuss proper social media use with their children, the importance of treating others with respect and compassion, and the consequences of promoting violent, harassing or bullying behaviour.
