A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, following a carjacking in Brampton where two victims were shot, police say.

The incident happened just before noon on April 6 near Central Park Drive and Glenvale Boulevard, just west of Torbram Road.

Peel Regional Police (PRP) say two suspects attempted to carjack a vehicle with two occupants and at some point during the incident the victims were shot.

The victims were, however, able to flee in the vehicle, police said.

One of the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the other remains in hospital in critical condition, police said.

“Following a foot pursuit, a male suspect was arrested. During the arrest, the suspect was found to have a loaded illegal firearm in his possession, which was capable of automatic fire,” they said in a news release.

The second suspect is still at-large.

In a follow-up email to CP24, Peel police said “nature of the relationship between the parties remains under investigation and will form part of the ongoing investigation.”

Investigators added that this incident appears to be isolated, adding there is no threat to public safety.

Naesean Okoko, 19, of Brampton, has been charged with nine offences, including attempted murder. The charges have not been tested in court.

He is being held pending a bail.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators.
