The artificial intelligence entrepreneur building Australia’s answer to OpenAI says US tech giants must be stopped from scraping mountains of data from Australian news websites and other copyrighted material without commercial arrangements, as Seven West Media joined Nine Entertainment and News Corp in calling out data theft.

Dave Lemphers is building Maincode as a so-called sovereign AI model in Australia, and said arguments being advanced by tech giants, US President Donald Trump and Australia’s Productivity Commission that copyright laws need to change to allow AI training are misleading and “unacceptable”.
