The Cottagers were not in Emirates FA Cup action last weekend and therefore will have had a 21-day gap in between matches.

Their Portuguese boss said: “It’s a rare situation for us when you are going to prepare yourself for the end of the season, the last seven games, and we are three weeks without a game. It’s a long period.

“Of course not for all and that’s a good sign for us as a football club that we had 13 players with international duties with their countries – that is a good sign.

“On the other side of it, plus the injured players, the group was really, really short in terms of numbers that we were preparing ourselves for the last 15 days. This week has been a normal week for us so far and a very good week.”
