A Nottingham Forest supporter has tragically died following the Europa League quarter-final tie against FC Porto. Vitor Pereira’s side faced the Portuguese giants at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday night.
The fan is reported to have been 84 years old and of English nationality. According to Portuguese media, the alert was raised shortly after midnight and, despite resuscitation attempts, the man was pronounced dead in Praca General Humberto Delgado in central Porto.
It is understood the supporter died of natural causes, with no indication of any criminal circumstances. The body was later removed by the Porto Volunteer Firefighters and taken to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Porto, where an autopsy will be carried out.

The relevant authorities will also notify the British consular services of the death. Forest took a 1-1 draw back to the East Midlands ahead of next week’s return leg at the City Ground. Both goals came in the first half, with the hosts gifting the equaliser.
Speaking after the match, Pereira, who made nine changes to his team before Sunday’s crucial Premier League match with Aston Villa, said: “A good result, in my opinion.
“To face two competitions we need to play with everyone. The players that started today did good work.
“In the end, 1-1, the game is open to play at home and decide qualification. Porto playing at home are a strong team

“They have momentum with supporters. With Forest I try to balance the two competitions; it was very clear, we played with nine different players to the last game.
“I think we did well. The players tried everything; 1-1 is a good result and playing at home we will see what we can do.”
“In two and a half days we are playing against Aston Villa and I have to think about it,” added Pereira. “If we were certain in the Premier League we would be talking about another match, but I’m pleased with the result, the players gave it their best, they kept it open and we will see what we can do next week.
“We are playing to stay in the Premier League and that has to be taken very seriously. I have to be responsible and we have to add points as quickly as possible to escape the last matches and remain in the Premier League.”
