Benn vs. Prograis live blog results

Prograis walks out to “Stand By Me” wearing an elaborate face mask/headdress combo. He’s rocking black gloves with white trim.

Benn is out in a black and gold outfit, looking very serious, walking out to the Fugees.

Benn out in orthodox, Prograis in southpaw. Benn flashes the jab immediately and an early clinch from Prograis forcing a break. Benn looks much bigger but Prograis lands a sharp left early. Benn does not care though and puts a sharp right hook into him. Benn out like a cannon to start, with very little respect for Prograis. Prograis looks slow. Prograis trying to get a jab going to intercept Benn now. Benn circling and trying to explode in, but Prograis lands a 1-2.

Benn still has very little respect for Prograis’ offense, bullying his way in. Benn drops a knee to the canvas, but that was strange. Can’t tell if it was a punch but he moves through it and the ref doesn’t call anything. And Benn lands a big shot right at the bell! Prograis didn’t go down but he got a jolt put into him there.

Benn charges across immediately, wanting to build on his momentum. Prograis with the jab and they clinch quickly. On the separation and Prograis looks a little unsteady in there. He eats a left hook in space. Prograis using his craft to keep this fight in space and working the jab down the middle. Benn looking for big shots but he’s missing a lot this round. Head-hunting too much and Prograis pops him one.

Benn clearly feels very confident in there but Prograis lands a left hand and goes down. Misstep and he’s right back up. Prograis’ footing is real weird in there. Benn getting walked into shots right now, overly aggressive and. Prograis scored again with the lead.

Benn right back into bully mode. He’s still all power shots. Prograis managing the range, keeping Benn from crowding him, but eating shots this round. Benn showing his youth and conditioning and Prograis probably can’t keep this pace up.

Benn’s feet are so much faster, walking in circles around Prograis, who is keeping him off, but you can see the cracks starting to form. Benn’s jab landing a little better, chipping away. Prograis only sticking his jab out now, and that’s not enough to keep Benn off him. Benn looking excellent this round, moving around the lead hand and working Prograis over with his lead. He’s fallen into a good rhythm, and a strong round.

Benn right back to work, as Prograis tries to land a left early and misses, but the second time it find a home and opens a cut on Benn’s right eye. Benn is still spry in there, but Prograis is moving him back a little more. And another left gets home for Prograis, but Benn returns a right. Benn using this new aggression from Prograis to get his counters going, landing a right. Prograis output is up this round but Benn lands a sharp left hook that gets his attention. Prograis gets his own left down the middle. Benn still much quicker but he’s doing a lot of the same. He digs to the body and then lands a jab before the end of the round.

Oh, replay shows that the cut on Benn was caused by an accidental head clash.

Oh fun. Netflix bugged out. Not sure what’s happening.

Oh, we’re back and there’s a clinch. Separate and Benn looking a little less energetic in there. No longer bouncing around Prograis. Still swinging hard as Prograis starts to back him up. Nice dip and body shot from Benn. He’s starting to go lower as Prograis has a high guard.

Prograis has come alive in the middle sector of this fight. Another pair of lefts, but Benn goes to the body. Prograis gesturing in there after eating a shot. He wants to get rugged in there, and they exchange in the phone booth. Prograis gaining confidence and Benn meeting him in the middle but can’t back him up now. This is turning into more of a fight as Benn gets warned for a bad clinch. Hard to score that round.

Benn’s pace has slowed at the mid-way mark. But he lands a nice left hook to the body early. And then eats a sharp left hand from Prograis, who looks confident. Benn starting to feint more, the body work opening up shots as he lands a very nice uppercut in close. Big left hook from Benn in close, but he gets cut again! Looked like another head clash that did it. And Benn wearing the crimson mask now. Prograis needs to take advantage.

Benn to the body off a feint. He’s upping his jab and output, keeping Prograis from working the cut. Sense of urgency from Benn, who is apparently talking to Prograis, because the ref warns him. Benn lands a clubbing left that stings Prograis. REALLY nice right hook from Benn to the body before the bell.

Benn seems unbothered by the two cuts, but he does eat a sharp left hand from Prograis early. But Benn bullying him a bit early, and Prograis seems shaky in there. He’s slowing down noticably, and his legs look weak. Benn asserting himself, getting inside and bringing power to bear. He’s upping the tempo and moving Prograis around. BIG breath outta Prograis, and Benn goes back to the body. The shift to the body shots has been huge for Benn. He’s wearing Prograis down, and that opens up the head.

Another shot to the body. And another. Sneaking them around the elbow and getting into the gut of Prograis. Prograis lands a good left, but he’s still not backing Benn up, who has all the momentum. And Benn keep working the belly. Prograis’ hands have lowered as Benn has really worked the body this round. Might be big for Benn over the final three rounds.

Benn right back to the body with the left hook. Benn brimming with confidence, moving around Prograis and firing punches in. Prograis on the retreat now; he’s wearing down. Prograis trying to back Benn up but Benn walking into the phonebooth and hammering away. Prograis’ footwork is still very sharp, not getting moved to the ropes. But Benn with two lefts to the body, then a left up top. The body shots have been a game-changer.

Prograis trying to back Benn up now but a clinch and Benn works inside. Bigger man being big. Prograis wearing some swelling now. Pace dropping off from both men though. But Benn keeps popping the body. Digs a sharp left hook up top. Big body shot from Benn before the bell.

The only real question at this point is will Benn get a late stoppage? It’s possible, but Prograis showing enough craft thus far that Benn is gonna have to push for it.

Prograis snapping the jab early but Benn lands a right up to that cracks him. Then Benn to the body. Benn looks rejuvenated in there, a lot of pep in his step. Prograis marching forward, trying to smother him, but the ref warns Prograis for a bad clinch. Prograis really covering his midsection now, which seems dangerous. And Prograis’ offense is dropping off a cliff. Nice combo from him as I type that, but Benn lands a right. Then digs the body. Then Prograis responds in kind.

Prograis has no quit in him, but his offense is so muted now. Benn walking him down more easily, but he can’t find anything to hurt him. Big uppercut to the body lands for Benn. Prograis looks TIRED. Benn still pretty fresh. Prograis takes another shot up top and he’s showing a lot of damage.

The crowd is aroar for the final round. Benn out like a rocket, bullying Prograis early. Benn shoves Prograis to the canvas and gets a warning. Prograis on unsteady legs though. Benn walking Prograis down but Prograis firing enough lefts and pivoting, preventing himself from getting cornered. He’s shown very impressive ring craft against the much bigger, younger man. Benn letting his youth take over though, walking through punches and looking for power shots. Prograis with a headbutt that gets a warning — and that looked a bit intentional from Prograis. Veteran savvy.

More work inside and this is gonna go to the cards. Prograis still is durable and he’s got enough skill to keep Benn from running over him, but the gap in size and youth was simply too much. Prograis continues to show craft but eats a few lefts. Prograis fires a few lefts of his own as we go to the cards.
