It may be mid-April, but snow is not done with Alberta just yet, with multiple parts of the province at risk of seeing snowfall in the forecast this week.
We were warned late last month about how the weather in April was shaping up for Alberta, and spring may be taking a backseat at times over the next few months, too.
A snowfall warning was issued for a section of northwestern Alberta on Monday afternoon, with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm expected. Snowfall will begin overnight and intensify on Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the vicinity of Grande Cache, and snowfall will taper off on Wednesday afternoon.
Looking at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Significant Weather Outlook, small portions of Alberta are at risk of seeing snow on Tuesday, April 14.
An area around Jasper National Park to Hinton may see 10 to 20 centimetres of snow tomorrow, with more significant impacts on the following day.

The outlook shows that the strongest round of snowfall will be on Wednesday, April 15, with a large section of the Rockies, Hinton, Whitecourt, Edmonton, and Lloydminster at risk of seeing 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.

On Thursday, April 16, it’s southern Alberta’s turn to be under the risk of seeing snow, with an area stretching from Waterton Lakes National Park to the Saskatchewan border, including Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, under the gun to potentially see 10 to 20 centimetres.

The forecasts for Alberta’s two largest cities signal snowfall events are on the way; however, daytime highs are strong enough that anything that does fall will likely melt rather quickly.
The seven-day forecast for Edmonton is a wet one starting tonight, with a 30 per cent chance of showers tonight and tomorrow, before a risk of rain showers or flurries appears tomorrow evening. Snow is in the cards for Wednesday, April 15, aligning with the outlook risk for that day.
