It was a wet, windy, and stormy Tuesday morning in Waterloo Region.

Environment Canada warned that more wet weather would be difficult for the already saturated ground to handle, after it issued a special weather statement calling for heavy rain.

The weather agency called for 10 to 20 millimetres of rain late Monday into Tuesday.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Rob Kuhn, said five distinct thunderstorms rolled over Kitchener’s Stanley Park neighbourhood, bringing 15.5 mm of rain by Tuesday morning.

It led to flooding on local roadways and a continued road closure on Kressler Road in the Heidelberg area.

The Tuesday morning drive on Highway 401 was also impacted by heavy rain in and out of the region, most notably when it came to visibility.

There is an expected break in the rain on Tuesday afternoon, with more to come Wednesday.

“Another round of storms is possible, so it is a very active stretch,” said 570 NewsRadio Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi.

“You do have moments to enjoy the warm conditions, but as always with thunderstorms, when you hear thunder make sure you get indoors.”

Temperatures are hovering well-above seasonal this week in Waterloo Region. Usually daytime highs are closer to 11 C, but temperatures are near 20 C until a cool off this weekend.
