The defeat of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in his country’s parliamentary elections on Sunday dealt a blow to illiberal forces across Europe and the West. Over the course of more than a decade and a half, Orbán transformed Hungary into a model for aspiring right-wing populists; Budapest became the capital of sorts of an ascendant illiberal international.
