Here’s a recap of what we know so far as a manhunt for one of the accused continues.

WHO WAS SHOT?

Three men, ages 19 or 20, were shot about 1 a.m. last Friday on the patio of the Lion’s Den, a student-run campus pub at Lambton College. Dane Nisbet, 20, of Sarnia, was rushed to Bluewater Health, where he died, police said.

The two other men, longtime friends of Nisbet’s who police have declined to identify, suffered injuries that weren’t life threatening.

Sarnia police said a group of four people, two from London and two from Sarnia, barhopped in the border city earlier that night, going from Chuck’s Roadhouse restaurant to Two Amigos restaurant and bar to the Lion’s Den. Throughout, one man in the group was “aggressive and looking to stir up trouble,” police said.

At Chuck’s, that group and another group – not Nisbet’s – clashed, a window was broken and a firearm flashed. Police were called about 11 p.m., but no firearm was found and a vehicle officers stopped turned out to be an Uber.

Nisbet and his friends were also at Chuck’s for a bit that night, but had no involvement in that incident or with the other group.

On arriving at the college pub, the man police said was aggressive clashed with several people. Words were exchanged and several people moved out to the pub’s patio, expecting a bar fight.

But there were no fisticuffs. Instead, a man allegedly pulled a Glock 45 handgun with an extended magazine and fired several shots, striking three people, about 1 a.m. Friday.

One person fired all the shots, but Sarnia police have repeatedly declined to say how many shots were fired.

Nisbet was hit in the chest, according to his obituary. Police have declined to say where the two other men were shot.

WHO ARE THE INJURED MEN?

Police are not identifying the two injured men.

“At this point in time, we are respecting their privacy,” Sarnia police Deputy Chief Ron Hansen said this week.

The Mooretown Flags’ general manager said all three men are former players, but wouldn’t name them. The Flags used their year-end banquet Friday, hours after the shooting, to remember Nisbet and to rally together.

Asked if the injured pair fear they’re still in danger, Hansen said this week: “We have people who are fearful just because this shouldn’t happen here. This is a cowardly act.”

Neither Nisbet’s group, nor Lambton College, was targeted that night, police said.

Nisbet and his friends were doing what young men are entitled to do, did nothing wrong and did nothing to contribute to what happened that night, Sarnia police Chief Derek Davis said.

“The (incident) could have occurred at any type of establishment,” he said.

The two groups didn’t know each other before the clash at the campus bar, police added.

WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARD?

Sarnia police tactical officers and a police dog team swarmed the area, but no one was arrested at the pub.

Four people fled in a Toyota Prius, police said. One person demanded to be let out of the car and got out near the Airport Road exit from Highway 402.

The other three drove to London, where they dropped one person off at their house. The driver returned to Sarnia, dropped another off at their home, then returned to London, police said.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GUN?

The Glock 45 exchanged hands multiple times, police said.

After the shooting, it went from one person in the group to another, who later handed it off to a person who wasn’t in the car with them. It was recovered Sunday in a Point Edward motel room, about 10 minutes away from Lambton College, police said.

Investigators believe it was smuggled into Canada from the U.S.

WERE LAMBTON COLLEGE STUDENTS INVOLVED?

Nisbet was a former student in Lambton College’s fire school. He had applied to the Canadian Armed Forces, according to his former hockey general manager.

None of the people in the London-based group are believed to be Lambton College students, police said.

It’s not clear if the two unidentified men who were shot went there.

The bar was open to the general public as well as students that night. The event, a country-themed bar night, was run by the student administrative council, which operates the Lion’s Den.

WHAT TYPE OF SECURITY WAS IN EFFECT?

The pub had security on scene checking IDs, police said, but they didn’t know to what level people were screened as they came in. There were no metal detectors, police said.

A woman who said she was at the bar that night questioned the lack of security.

WHO ARE THE ACCUSED?

Four people faces charges in this case.

Two London men – Kyaw (Chin) Doe, 24, who’s still being sought by police, and Oudom (Richard) Bun, 23, who was in custody and to appear in court Thursday – are charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, police said.
