Edmonton police say they have recovered a vehicle that was involved in the fatal hit-and-run of a 13-year-old last year.

Police said on May 29, 2024, a 13-year-old was riding his bicycle when he was fatally struck in a hit-and-run in southeast Edmonton.

Another driver found the boy around 4 a.m. and called police. Paramedics also responded to the scene; however, the boy died from his injuries a short time later.

“It appears that the male was operating a bicycle eastbound on 34th Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle,” Sgt. Richard Windover told CityNews following the collision. “That vehicle did not remain at the scene. It actually left the location and is unaccounted for at this time.”

On July 2, 2025, police released video footage of a vehicle — a 2017 blue Mazda 3 — believed to be involved, and asked the public for help finding it.

Police have since been able to find the Mazda 3 at a repair shop thanks to tips from the public. They did note that the time and location of the vehicle being recovered will not be shared at this time.

Additionally, repairs and alterations had not been made to the vehicle by the time it was seized by police.

“As our investigation into this fatal hit-and-run collision continues, we are encouraged by the new evidence we have obtained through locating and seizing the suspect Mazda 3,” said A/Sgt. Chris Deslaurier, with the Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS).

“Our focus remains on bringing a matter of resolution to this young man’s family. We believe there are members of the public who have valuable information that will continue to assist us with our investigative efforts. If you have any information about the collision or the driver of this vehicle, please contact us immediately.”

If anyone has any information regarding the collision, they are asked to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
