Greater Manchester Police say that ‘some force’ was used to prevent protesters from interacting.
A spokesperson said: “A small breakaway group of protesters had made their way down the side of the Town Hall.
“Officers were met with resistance as they moved them away from the nearby counter group and some force was required.
“Officers are working hard to maintain safety and order.”
