Live updates from Ashton Gate as Roy Hodgson’s Bristol City host Norwich City in the Championship (3:00pm kick-off)

Hello and welcome to this afternoon’s live blog, where we will be bringing you live updates from Ashton Gate as Bristol City and Roy Hodgson continue their end-of-season run-in against Norwich City.

It has been a whole week since the Robins were last in action, with last Saturday afternoon’s trip to Queens Park Rangers not the most memorable. Hodgson’s side were able to extend their unbeaten run to three games under their interim head coach, but couldn’t secure a third straight win.

For this afternoon’s opponents, however, the weekend was more disappointing. Norwich were unable to close the gap to the play-off places as they were beaten 2-0 by East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town at Carrow Road, with the Tractor Boys securing bragging rights.

With a win over the Reds this afternoon, Philippe Clement’s side could move within seven points of the top six, depending on results elsewhere. For the Robins, three points will likely matter very little in terms of the league table, but would maintain the recent positive mood.

When these two sides met at Carrow Road earlier this season, Mark Sykes secured all three points for Gerhard Struber’s side. On the Canaries’ last visit to Ashton Gate, the Reds came out on top thanks to another goal from Sykes and a clever Nahki Wells finish.

Hodgson’s side will be eager to maintain their recent momentum and claim what would be a fourth straight win over the Canaries.

The interim head coach’s reaction

Roy Hodgson was very, very balanced in his assessment of that one, I have to say. He felt the Robins were unfortunate, but conceded that Norwich City had control for most of the second-half.

He did feel his squad have a lesson to digest after the end of their “dream run” as you can read HERE…

Well, I’m not sure I’ve managed to get my head around that one yet. That has to be up there with the most bizarre matches of football I have seen at Ashton Gate, and this has been one strange season.

The referee finally blows his whistle to bring what has been, to be quite honest, a baffling afternoon to an end. The Robins are beaten for the first time under Roy Hodgson, despite being in control over the course of the opening 45 minutes.

The Robins have a consolation. Bell finishes well after being flicked behind by Burgzorg. The Boro loanee is down after a coming together in the area.

Fair play to those who have remained in their seats. They celebrated that like a winner.

That was nearly a fifth for the Canaries. A ball is crossed into the middle of the penalty area from the left flank and Cordoba steers his header just wide of the post.

That sums up his season so far. Armstrong does so well to set a pass back to Burgzorg on the edge of the area and he shoots with his right foot.

This strike is well over the bar. He had to hit the target there.

A cross from the left wing is nodded down to Horvat who is stationed just inside the penalty area. With his right foot, he strikes towards goal and forces a reasonable save.

City also make a change as Ross McCrorie is replaced by George Tanner.

Ali Ahmed’s afternoon is over as he is replaced by Mundle-Smith. That is one of two changes the away side are making as Schwartau is replaced by Amankwah.

Norwich have a fourth and City’s second-half goes from bad to worse. A free-kick is swung towards the back post where it is met by Cordoba who seemingly catches Radek Vitek off-guard with his header.

He should do better is my initial impression. This is a bad, bad day at the office.

Sam Morsy is replaced late on here to a round of applause from home crowd and cheers from the away end. Sinclair Armstrong is the man on in his place.

Maghoma’s afternoon is now over as he is replaced by Ben Slimane. Toure, the hat-trick hero, is also replaced by Kvistgaarden.

The Canaries forward has a hat-trick in the luckiest of fashions. Maghoma takes aim from long range after that corner and his shot with his right foot is deflected past Radek Vitek inadvterantly.

That will likely be that today, I imagine.

I think it is the Norwich defender who enters the book here for a late challenge on Burgzorg. The substitute had done well to break onto a loose ball.

The away side take the lead as Toure gets his second of the afternoon. The Canaries broke after a City corner and the ball was passed across goal for the Norwich man to slot home.

Hodgson’s side have a lot of work to do here now.

For the first time, I think, Roy Hodgson is the first boss to shuffle the pack. Emil Riis, Mark Sykes and Scott Twine are replaced by Delano Burgzorg, Sam Bell and Tomi Horvat.

That seems very harsh against the Dane once more. He lifts a leg to pass a ball out to Sykes on the right and catches his marker at the same time. It is a head injury so play should stop, but I’m not sure it should have been a foul.

Riis is the man to clear the danger from Norwich’s first corner before Pring is able to deal with the follow up. It then takes a comfortable save from Vitek to deny the away side’s third wave of attack.

This hasn’t been quite as good from City since the break.

Having dealt with the initial corner, City ease some of the mounting pressure when Twine curls a clearance high into the sky and out for a throw-in on the halfway line.

Cam Pring thinks he has won a penalty here but once again, the referee isn’t interested. The defender is unleashed behind and goes shoulder to shoulder with his marker before going to ground.

At the other end, Norwich have a corner…

The referee has made a bold call here. Toure is slipped down the right side of the penalty area and looks to take the ball around Vitek who has left his line.

The striker goes to ground looking for a penalty but the referee, with the aid of his assistant, isn’t interested. In fact, he books the Norwich man for simulation.

The Canaries pull level. Norwich have a free-kick just right of centre some 30 yards from goal and McLean opts to pass out to the right wing, where a cross is whipped into the penalty area.

Toure is the man to meet it with his head, but his shot is saved by Vitek who can only parry back out into the danger zone. Toure is on hand to tap home with his second bite of the cherry.

That is a let off for Radek Vitek. The goalkeeper gets his pass out of defence very, very wrong and picks out McLean some 35 yards from goal.

With his first touch, he looks to chip over the head of the United loanee and while he gets it up, it ends up over the bar.

The corner is fizzed into the penalty area and is met by someone in yellow and green, but their effort is well, well wide of the post. It ends up behind for a goal kick.

Now that has irritated the Ashton Gate crowd. A chipped Sykes pass seems to have played Riis behind the Norwich backline, but the flag goes up for an offside before he can get a shot away.

I have to say, that looked harsh.
