WWE WrestleMania 42 Night One LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

I’ll mesmerize you, hypnotize you, paralyze you, my snake eyes blind you. My tenderest tickle, my gentlest prickle, the back of your neck, I stab icicles. My sweetest grin will pull you in, and I’ll liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a Lin Manuel-Miranda video package putting over the grandeur of WrestleMania.

WrestleMania host John Cena makes his entrance, in a suit and tie to signal that he’s well and truly not here to wrestle.

He gets in the ring and on the mic and thanks the crowd for their reaction. He says the past year has been unpredictable, and from every side– in the ring, in the back, and out in the crowd– very, very vocal. One might say polarizing, and so he sees why he got the hosting gig.

Tonight there’s one thing on everyone’s mind, who is gonna stand up and deliver? And so he welcomes us to WrestleMania!

IShowSpeed & the Vision (Austin Theory & Logan Paul) vs. LA Knight & the Usos (“Big” Jim & “Main Event” Jey Uso)

Usos take the Vision out with a superkick and Knight starts opposite Speed. IShow with a side headlock, LA just stands up and lifts him off the ground, shrug him off, backflip fakeout and Knight drops him! Paul up on the apron, LA clobbers him, but turns around into a bodyslam from IShowSpeed!

Tag to Logan, LA slings him inside, takes him to the corner, stomping a proverbial mudhole, quick tags to the Usos, double back elbow, double elbow drop, Jim with a cover for two! Theory tags in, blasts Uso with a dropkick, takes him into the corner for mounted punches. Vision in control, working the heat segment, Big Jim manages to fight back and lands a corkscrew moonsault, both he and Paul are down!

Tags to Jey and Austin, Uso laying right hands in, pop and lock, crotch chop, Theory ducks the punch, fireman’s carry, off the ropes, spear takes him out… LOGAN BREAKS IT UP! Match breaks down, Speed gets a tijeras on Jim, Knight cuts him off, BFT blocked but Paul gets shoved off the ropes by accident!

Theory yells at IShow for knocking Logan off the apron and drags LA over to him and tells him to hit the ropes, Speed off the ropes, Knight throws Austin into him, capitalizes…

LA Knight & the Usos win by pinfall with the BFT from Knight on Austin Theory.

Post-match, Logan Paul yells at IShowSpeed and lays him out with a right hand, berating him that he had one job and he ruined WrestleMania, before throwing him out of the ring like a sack of garbage.

Paul clears the announce desk and sets Speed atop it before going into the ring, climbing up top, the Usos cut him off, whip across, 1D takes Logan out! LA Knight puts Paul on the desk, the Usos cajole IShowSpeed into heading up top, he climbs on the ringpost… ISHOWSPEED SHOWS A HUGE TURNING FROG SPLASH OFF THE POST AND THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE DESK!

LA Knight, the Usos, and Speed all go back into the ring so Jey can run it back and they can yeet together.

We see various sporting men in the front row.

Drew McIntyre vs. “Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu (Unsanctioned Match)

Fatu nails McIntyre at the base of the ramp, taking him barricade to barricade, throwing him over the timekeeper’s barricade! Jacob pulls a couple tables out from under the ring, slides one inside, pulls out a couple chairs and throws them in too! Putting a boot to Drew to keep him off-balance, Fatu pulls out a red toolbox and dumps it out into the ring before fending McIntyre off with it as he comes over!

Drew trips him up, grabs the toolbox and throws it inside before catapulting Jacob into the steel frame of the ring! McIntyre grabs a cellphone from apparently his brother and films a little before smashing it into Fatu’s face and handing it back! Action back in the ring, Drew grabs an adjustable wrench but Jacob runs over him with a lariat!

Off the ropes, Fatu shrugs off a front kick, lariat and a senton, charging corner lariat, headbutts in the corner! Ode to Rikishi follows it up, the Samoan Werewolf struts, sidesteps a charge, hits a Samoan drop… NOPE! Headbutt cuts him off, back elbow, sidestep and Jacob goes face-first into the post!

Belly-to-belly suplex about throws Fatu out of the ring, Drew off the ropes… TOPE CON GIRO! Back inside, count down, Jacob ducks the Claymore! He rams McIntyre into a chair wedged in the corner, double jump moonsault… NOT ENOUGH! Drew hurting, he grabs a wrench and smashes Fatu’s knee before stabbing him in the head with it!

Setting a pair of chairs up, McIntyre with a standing Falcon Arrow through them… FATU KICKS OUT! Drew yells at referee Dan Engler and steals his belt! Swinging it around, sauntering towards Jacob, snapping it in his hands… FATU CUTS HIM OFF WITH A SUPERKICK! Chair in hand, the Werewolf bends it over his back!

Another chair, now Jacob has the belt and tees off, whipping Drew across his back unmerciful! Fatu grabs the toolbox and turns around… CLAYMORE CONNECTS BUT JACOB MANAGES TO KICK OUT! McIntyre flips out at Engler for the count, shoving him away! Trading right hands, trading chops, trading big paintbrush slaps!

Fatu hammers him to the mat with headbutts, setting a Slim Jim table up in the ring, putting Drew onto it. Jacob climbs, McIntyre wakes up and throws a chair at him to cut him off before shoving him off the post and through the table set up at ringside! Back inside, Fatu is a step ahead, a pair of crescent kicks, he grabs the toolbox… AND SMASHES DREW’S HEAD IN WITH IT! SPRINGBOARD MOONSAULT THROUGH THE TABLE AND IT IS OVER!

Jacob Fatu wins by pinfall with the double jump moonsault through a table.

We check in with the Spanish announce team briefly.

During entrances for the tag title match, Nikki Bella comes out limping on a crutch.

She says she tried really hard to overcome her injury but she couldn’t get medically cleared and she didn’t want to ruin Brie’s WrestleMania moment, so she called in an old friend…

Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria vs. Brie Bella & Paige vs. the Irresistible Forces (Lash Legend & Nia Jax) (c) (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship)

Brie Bella & Paige win by pinfall with the capture DDT from Paige on Alexa Bliss, becoming your new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

We see Din Djarin and Grogu in the crowd, which seems like it creates some continuity issues, and they toss to a trailer for their movie, which I guess is… a documentary?

AJ Lee (c) vs. Becky Lynch (WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship)

Lynch in, whip reversed, big arm drag from Lee! AJ fakes out in the ropes, passes Becky to the floor, she catches Lee and fallaway slams her into the barricade! Becky Lynch wins by pinfall with the Manhandle Slam, becoming your new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

We get an ad for Mortal Kombat II, and yet neither Liu Kang nor Johnny Cage are in attendance?

GUNTHER hot before the bell, back suplex, powerbomb, Rollins falls to the floor! Ring General out after him, Seth blindsides him, hammering strikes against the barricade, over both announce desks, to the steel steps, to the corner barricade! Knees upon knees upon knees, Seth cold throws a chair at him and then a second one!

Double birds at GUNTHER, both men in the ring, trading elbows and we finally get the bell! Trading big boots, Ring General catches him with a short one right in the ropes and the Gojira Clutch is on! Big German suplex, Seth lands on his feet and drops GUNTHER with a boot! Kick to the ribs, double wrist clutch and into the Danielson stomps! Thinking Blackout… GUNTHER COUNTERS WITH A LARIAT!
