A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged hit-and-run in which a pedestrian was critically injured.
The victim, a man in his 40s, remains in hospital after the incident in Crowstone Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, at about 07:30 BST on Thursday.
Essex Police said the white Mercedes involved was recovered nearby, having been stolen from an address in Southend-on-Sea at 01:00.
The force later forensically examined the vehicle and said it was investigating the collision “at pace”.
