Iowa City police are investigating a shooting that injured multiple people at the downtown Ped Mall early Sunday morning. ICPD says they were called to the 100 Block of East College Street around 1:45 Sunday morning on reports of a large fight. Officers say they heard gunshots when they arrived on scene.Police say several people were shot and taken to the hospital. Police have not provided any information regarding their condition. No arrests have been made.The University of Iowa sent a Hawk Alert to students asking people to avoid the area. Gov. Kim Reynolds issued the following statement: “Kevin’s and my prayers this morning are with the victims and their families. This senseless act of violence has devastated the university community and our state. I have spoken with University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson and Board of Regents Chair Robert Cramer and assured them that the full resources of the state are available to assist with the investigation. The Department of Public Safety has contacted the Iowa City Police Department to offer their support.” Robert Cramer, president of the Iowa Board of Regents, said: “Our hearts are heavy, and our prayers are with the victims, their families and anyone affected by this horrific incident. The safety of all the faculty, staff and students at our universities is the highest priority to the Iowa Board of Regents.
