The UK’s second largest marathon gets underway this weekend

One of the most-anticipated events of the year returns to the city this weekend.
The adidas Manchester Marathon will see a record high 42,000 runners take to the streets of the city on Sunday (April 19), with thousands more expected to come out in support of those breaking a sweat.
The action kicks off at 9am on Chester Road – adjacent to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.

If you have a friend or loved one taking part then you can follow their race from the sidelines or, if you can’t make it, from the comfort of your own home.
Official tracking tool
You can track their live splits and finishing time through the predictive tracking tool on the adidas Manchester Marathon official website.
Organisers have allocated five timing points on the course – start, 10k, halfway, 30k and finish. As a runner crosses each point, their time will be instantly updated on the tracker.
Between these points, the tracker will show a predicted location for each runner, based on their speed so far.
This should offer an excellent rough guide for when to look out for a friend or loved one on the course, or follow their progress at home.
Find My
Alternatively, you can use the ‘Find My’ app available on iPhones.
Simply ask your participant to open the Settings app on their device, tap their name, then tap Find My.
They then need to turn on Share My Location. Family Sharing is also an option only to share location with select participants.
Your runner can also share their location via WhatsApp.
They must first enable location permissions for WhatsApp in their phone’s Settings > Tap Apps> WhatsApp > Permissions > Location > Turn on WhatsApp.
They can select from ‘Allow only while using the app’, ‘Ask every time’, and ‘Don’t allow’.
Once enabled, the individual can open an individual or group chat and tap Location > Share live location.
They can then choose the amount of time and once done, those in the group can see a map with live location on the chat.
Results
For results and finish times after your runner has crossed the line, click here.
Results can take up to 45 minutes to appear, so if you see the letters DNF (did not finish), don’t panic. Simply wait a little while and check again to see if the system has updated.
All participants who entered a UK mobile number will also receive their result via text message as soon as they finish.
