The energy secretary might be in hot water with President Trump over his messaging on gas prices. Over the weekend, Chris Wright predicted that gas would stay above $3 a gallon for the rest of the year, or close to it, because of the Iran war. On Monday, Trump called out his Cabinet member. “No, I think he’s wrong on that—totally wrong,” Trump told the Hill. He added that prices will fall quickly “as soon as this ends,” referring to the war.
Mediaite notes that both men have shifted their predictions. Back in early March, Wright said gas would fall back under $3 in a matter of weeks as a “worst case” scenario. And Trump told Fox News on April 12 that gas prices would likely not change much before the midterms in November, before predicting they would be “much lower” in another Fox interview two days later. On Monday, the price of Brent crude was sitting above $93 a barrel, reports CNBC, up a few dollars from Friday because of renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
