Firefighters have doused the flames of a blaze that broke out around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Halifax Professional Fire Fighters (HPFF) plumes of thick, black smoke were billowing from a structure on Cogswell Street.

Crews from Station 3 arrived to find a blaze in the basement of a high-rise building. According to officials, the fire conditions were very complex, prompting teams to upgrade the incident.

This brings additional firefighters to the scene.

“Crews are actively working to contain the fire, protect occupants, and support a coordinated, multi-unit response in a challenging environment,” the fire union said in a post.

The fire was declared under control around 1:30 p.m.
