A murder suspect has been named after a dad died days after an attack in a takeaway. Carl Ennis, 54, was seriously assaulted inside The Village Chippy, off Leach Croft in Stockbridge Village, on Friday night.
The ECHO understands Carl, nicknamed “Scully”, received a serious head injury during the assault but was assisted by the takeaway staff before leaving the scene carrying his bag of food. The ambulance service reported the incident to police the following day after Carl was taken to hospital.
He died of his injuries on Tuesday and Merseyside Police upgraded their investigation to a murder probe. A suspect who was initially arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent was re-arrested and held on suspicion of murder on the same day as Carl’s death.
And Merseyside Police confirmed on Thursday that officers have now charged a suspect in connection with Carl’s death.
Jahfari Moore, 25 and of Marled Hey in Stockbridge Village, has been charged with murder.
The force confirmed the suspect has been remanded in custody to appear at Sefton Magistrates’ Court today.

The ECHO understands Carl was a dad and has family around the Boode Croft and Woodfarm Hey area of Stockbridge Village. Following his death, his loved ones remembered his “kind and caring nature” and “love of wildlife”.
Jackie Jones wrote on Facebook: “We shared so many happy and adventurous times growing up. You were one of the truest people I ever had the privilege to be around. You will be sadly missed. Forever in all our hearts. We will see you on the other side.”
Shirley Jones said: “Carl was a lovely fella. Thoughts are with his family now.” Toni May Edwards added: “So very saddened to hear this sad news. Thinking of you all. Sending all my love.”
People in Stockbridge Village who spoke to the ECHO on Wednesday morning described Carl as a “familiar face” and a “nice lad”. The ECHO was told Carl would “always say hello” to anyone he passed in the street and was a “smiley face” in the area.
“It’s so sad what happened,” one person, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO. “I only knew of him, really, but he’d always shout hello every time he saw me. He was a lovely lad.”

A post-mortem will now be carried out to establish Carl’s cause of death. The ECHO has approached the coroner to confirm if a file has been passed on ahead of an inquest being formally opened.
Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said today: “We are continuing to appeal for anyone who has yet to come forward about this incident to do so.
“At this point in the investigation, it is also vital that I take this opportunity to remind people not to share or comment in any way which could jeopardise our work. Information should be provided as soon as possible in any of the following ways.”
