Israel’s High Court of Justice held an emotionally charged hearing on Thursday on petitions demanding that the government establish an independent state commission of inquiry into the failures leading up to Hamas’ October 7 attacks in 2023. The court took the unusual step of barring members of the general public from the courtroom for the hearing due to concern over “disturbances, rioting or outbursts.”
