EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings have traded Jonathan Greenard.
Minnesota traded the outside linebacker and the 244th overall pick of 2026 to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick in 2026 (98th overall) and a third-round pick in 2027, the team announced Friday during Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Greenard joined the Vikings as a free agent in 2024 and made an impact on their defense under Brian Flores for two seasons.
In his first campaign in Purple, Greenard started all 17 games and racked up 12 sacks, a career-high 18 tackles for loss and a whopping 22 QB hits, plus four forced fumbles and three passes defensed. His 84 pressures, according to analytics site Pro Football Focus, tied with Rams rookie Jared Verse for most in the NFL. Greenard earned his first career Pro Bowl nod following his stellar 2024 performance.
His sack numbers may have fallen off in 2025, but in the 12 games he played, he remained a force for opposing quarterbacks to reckon with — leading the Vikings with 47 pressures and earning a pass rush grade of 77.6 from PFF. Greenard finished the 2025 season with 38 tackles, 3.0 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, a forced fumble and three passes defensed. He missed Minnesota’s final three games with a shoulder injury.
Prior to joining the Vikings, Greenard spent four seasons with the Texans, who drafted him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He started 32 of 48 games played for Houston and recorded a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2023.
The departure of Greenard likely means increased responsibility for Dallas Turner, who is entering his third season after being drafted 17th overall by the Vikings in 2024. Turner played a notable 402 more snaps in 2025 than he did during his rookie campaign. He saw big jumps in all stat categories, including 15 quarterback hits (five in 2024) and 11 tackles for loss (three as a rookie).
The trade occurred with two seasons remaining on Greenard’s four-year deal that was signed in 2024. It provides the Vikings with salary cap space this year and increased financial flexibility for next year.
It was the second trade of the night by Minnesota, which moved back two spots in Round 2 before selecting linebacker Jake Golday out of Cincinnati with the 51st overall pick.
