A shooting on Saturday morning at a Chicago hospital left two police officers injured, with one in critical condition, officials said.
A person “in the custody of law enforcement” was brought to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital for unspecified treatment at 9 a.m., Endeavor Health said on social media.
The person, who was not identified, was checked by security staff members for weapons, the hospital said, and he was escorted by law enforcement at all times.
The person opened fire on the officers around 11 a.m. in the hospital, and then fled, Endeavor Health said. It did not say how the person gained access to a weapon.
Multiple shots were fired, Andre Vasquez, the alderperson for the city’s 40th Ward, said on social media. A person was arrested in connection with the shooting, he said.
The status of the other officer was not immediately clear. No patients or hospital staff members were injured, the hospital said.
The hospital said there was no active threat to patients or hospital staff.
