The MPCA issued an air quality alert for all of Minnesota from Sunday through Tuesday.
MINNESOTA, USA — Minnesota just exited the longest air quality alert, but residents should brace for more smoke coming this way.Â
The Minneapolis Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) issued an air quality alert for all of Minnesota, taking effect at 9 a.m. on Sunday and lasting until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.Â
The air quality is expected to reach the red level in the AQI category, which is unhealthy for everyone, according to a press release.Â
The MPCA says smoke from the wildfires across central Saskatchewan and Manitoba will enter western Minnesota early on Sunday and then expand further east through the evening. From Monday to Tuesday, the smoke will disperse from west to east.Â
According to the press release, people are encouraged to avoid or limit outdoor physical activities.Â
Authorities warn that small smoke particles can be breathed deeply into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, which can cause a range of significant health issues, including bronchitis, stroke, heart palpitations, asthma attacks, heart attacks, and other problems.Â
Anyone experiencing severe symptoms should call emergency services immediately.Â
