Residents across the Nara Prefecture reported ‘strong shaking’ when the earthquake struck earlier today with a sismic intesity 4. Nearby areas in Mie, Nara, Wakayama prefectures and Osaka also reported feeling the tremor.
“I live in Nara and thought earthquakes of magnitude 1 or higher were rare here, but this one shook quite a bit,” said one on X. “No damage was done. Since it’s an inland prefecture not facing the sea, I wasn’t worried about tsunamis.”
Another resident in Osaka said: “It shook – there was a roaring sound, and it started with quite a strong tremor, magnitude 3 in Osaka. And to top it off, the emergency earthquake alert didn’t come through in time, and the shaking hit.”
“It’s been about 15 years since I returned to Osaka, and this is the first time I’ve felt an earthquake since the 2011 Tohoku-Kanto Great Earthquake.”
Another said the quake “shook so much, I totally panicked” while a fourth echoed: “It shook pretty good.”
