Saskatoon police say three people are in custody following a head-on collision that caused a vehicle to go up in flames in the city’s north end, leaving a man with serious injuries.
Police say they were called to the area of Idylwyld Drive near 58th Street West just after 8 a.m. Tuesday after receiving calls that the driver of a black Dodge Durango was “driving erratically.”
The Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) said an officer attempted to stop the vehicle after receiving a complaint.

The vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 11 into Saskatoon fled from the CPPS officer when he turned on his lights, according to a media release.
The officer disengaged, but police say the vehicle continued southbound. It crossed the median into oncoming northbound traffic.
Police say the suspect vehicle struck a northbound white Ford Transit van, which caught fire.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, an 82-year-old man, was taken to Royal University Hospital in critical condition.
The involved officer was also taken to hospital out of precaution, according to police. There is no word on any injuries for the driver of the suspect vehicle.
Police say the Dodge Durango was reported stolen out of Prince Albert, Sask., and that charges against the three suspects are pending and will be provided when available.
The incident has been referred to the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team. The police watchdog is tasked with investigating when someone dies or is seriously injured while in police custody or as a result of a police officer’s actions.
