Leeds United travel down to Spurs this evening with our Premier League safety already confirmed, leaving West Ham’s fate in our hands in North London.

If someone had said before the start of the season that Leeds would be safe from relegation with three games left, having been to an FA Cup semi-final, you’d have been absolutely delighted.

It’s been an incredible season for Daniel Farke and the club. Up next, the focus shifts into finishing as high as possible in the league table.

“I’m really happy” – Gary Neville delighted that Leeds United and Sunderland are staying in the Premier League

West Ham’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday means Leeds are mathematically safe from relegation. We join Sunderland in bucking the trend of newly-promoted sides being relegated straight away.

Recruitment has been a massive factor in both clubs succeeding, on top of shrewd coaching from Farke and Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville spoke after Sunday’s huge finish at the London Stadium, delighted at Leeds and Sunderland staying up.

“If Tottenham do the job tomorrow night [against Leeds], I think that’s it,” Neville said on the Gary Neville podcast. “I think it’ll be too much for West Ham.

“I will be happy this year that two different clubs are going down. Leeds and Sunderland are going to stay up, we needed that rot of the same teams going down to break. I’m really happy about that.”

“I’m not accusing” – Gary Neville on whether Leeds United will ‘step off it’ against Spurs after securing Premier League status

Now that the main objective is ticked off, Leeds have the chance to end the season extending the unbeaten run. Should Leeds climb the table, bonus payments are in line for the squad.

However, Neville believes that there’s potential for a subconscious drop in performance that comes with relief at surviving relegation.

“Tomorrow night, Leeds might be free as a bird and play beautifully. They came to Old Trafford under pressure and they played absolutely incredibly, they’ve got it in them,” Neville continued.

“But tonight [Sunday], will Leeds United go to bed and *sigh* just relax, wake up in the morning chilled? Just relaxing, because it’s a battle.

West Ham United’s Premier League status, I think, is in the hands of a Leeds United that are now safe. That edge is now not there for Leeds, what you’re now asking from the players is to be exactly the same as they were under pressure.

“I’m not accusing the Leeds players of stepping off it, but those things naturally do happen.”

Leeds United have incentive to stay on the gas in the Premier League – 14th is in view

A 3-0 win for Leeds tonight moves us up to 13th. There’s clear incentive for Farke’s squad to keep the foot on the gas to potentially raise the bonus payments due.

We’ve been incredible so far and the lack of pressure on our squad now might allow us to express ourselves. After claiming promotion last season, we kept winning. We battered Bristol City 4-0 before clinching the league title on the final day.

Farke doesn’t strike me as the manager that would let his players drop their standards, even though there’ll be huge relief.
