BUCHAREST — Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin is set to address a joint session of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies and Senate on Wednesday, as the two countries mark the annual Day of Solidarity and Friendship between Romania and Israel.
The session, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Palace of Parliament, is organized by Israel’s Ambassador to Romania, Dr. Lior Ben Dor. Chamber Speaker Sorin Grindeanu, who led an official parliamentary delegation to Israel in February, will preside.
Speaking ahead of the plenary, Grindeanu described Israel as Romania’s closest ally in the region and said both countries are prepared to expand commercial and investment ties. “Our friendship and our cooperation are, from my point of view, stronger than ever,” he told the Israeli delegation Wednesday morning.
The joint session is an annual event. MP Silviu Vexler, who represents Romania’s Jewish community in parliament, co-sponsored the legislation establishing the day alongside a representative of the country’s German minority.
Following the parliamentary session, an exhibition titled “Her Pain, Her Power: Voices of October 7th” will open at the Palace of Parliament, highlighting gender-based violence and dedicated to Israeli women affected by the Hamas massacre.
