Mark O’Sullivan, of Asgard Drive, Grange Manor, Waterford, formerly of Ballygunner, Grantstown, Waterford, and late of CCS Manguard, died in a crash on the Williamstown Road in Waterford city on August 9.
Shortly after 1pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, Mr O’Sullivan – aged in his 40s – was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 30s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. There were no other injuries reported. Investigations are ongoing, said gardaí.
Mr O’Sullivan is survived by his wife Tanya, son Ryan, daughters Brooke, Amelia and Chloe, parents Edward (Nedzer) and Mary, parents-in law Des and Patricia (Cuddihy), brother Keith, sisters Selena and Charlene and their partners Brian and John, brother-in-law David, sisters-in-law Colette, Katie, Charlotte and Morgan, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Condolences have been expressed from far and wide, particularly in the motorcycle community.
Deise Bikers motorcycle club said on Sunday: “It’s with great sadness and a heavy heart we post this today. Sully was more than a boss, he was a genuine friend and a gentleman, our sincere condolences go out to Mark’s wife and kids and his extended family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.”
One mourner wrote: “Deepest sympathies to Mark’s family Tanya, Ryan, Brooke, Amelia, and Chloe, his parents Edward and Mary, extended family, friends, and all of Mark’s colleagues in CCS Manguard. I am deeply saddened by Mark’s sudden and untimely passing. I had the privilege of working with him for many years.
“Mark was exceptionally efficient, reliable, and consistent, with a great ability to stay calm under pressure. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and he always had a practical solution at hand. His intelligence, good humour, and kindness made every challenge seem manageable, and his steady presence was greatly valued.”
Mark O’Sullivan died in a tragic collision in Waterford city on Saturday. His funeral details have been announced.

Another friend wrote: “My sincere condolences to Tanya and kids. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mark for many years since a teenager. My brother Ger loved him dearly and he really was a great friend. He always looked out for us and for that we will always be grateful.”
Mr O’Sullivan’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at St Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, Waterford. He will lie in repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Waterford on Tuesday, August 12, from 7pm to 8.30pm.
His funeral begins the following day at 11.30am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted an examination of the scene on Saturday and the road was closed for a time. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward, added a spokesperson.
“Any road users who may have camera footage – including dash-cam – and were travelling in the area between 12.50pm and 1.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.” Homeowners along the Williamstown Road who may have CCTV footage are also asked to make this available to gardaí.
